Drumtracker is a program released by the software company Toontrack. Some computer users decide to remove this application. This can be hard because performing this manually takes some experience related to PCs.
Toontrack have launched a new software product called Drumtracker, designed to create MIDI files specifically for drum-replacement purposes. It analyses audio and locates hit points, which can be edited to create a master MIDI track, to help beef-up, or entirely substitute, a drum track. Cleverly, the application can import multiple tracks from a multi-mic session, giving the user control over each recorded drum or cymbal. The velocity and timing of the detected hits can be altered and even deleted, and filters can be applied to the detection algorithm on each track so that it searches only for, say, kick drum hits or open hi-hat sizzles. An intuitive interactive display of the audio waveform provides an easy-to-use interface.
The output of each track can the mapped to different MIDI notes, and General MIDI maps allow for simple exporting. Drumtracker comes with a built-in library of drum samples, so you can audition the results of the audio-to-MIDI conversion process. It costs £69/$149 and works as a stand-alone application on Macs and PCs.
Also new from Toontrack is an expansion pack for EZ Drummer that gives you the sounds of Clyde Stubblefield and John ‘Jabo’ Starks, who both played with James Brown. Funk Masters, as it’s called, features two different kits — one for each player — and was created by recording rhythm grooves and drum sounds from the drum legends. Apart from the sampled sounds (which occupy 1.2GB of hard disk space in total), there are vinyl-emulation and plate reverb effects included in the expansion pack, both of which will help inject a bit more of that funk vibe in your songs. The Funk Masters expansion pack costs £48 including VAT or $88 in the USA.
